Camogie Féile 2023
Saturday 22nd April saw our U15 Camogie girls descend upon Erin’s Isle in anticipation of a great days Camogie .
We beat, the hosts and Round Towers to ensure qualification for the Semis but needed to beat St Maurs to guarantee top spot in Grp. B. In an exciting match played in heavy rain, Maurs found the net with a minute left to go ahead before we got a goal at the death to win the game 4-2 to 3-3.
We had a wait of 2 hrs before our next game and we used the time to get Skorts dried and a replacement set of jerseys .
The Semi Final was against a strong Westmanstown team and was a tense affair evidenced by the fact that it was scoreless at half time. But we found our rhythm in the second half to win out 1-3 to 0-0 and secured a place in the final. Particular thanks to Erin’s Isle for going above and beyond in hosting a fantastic day .
After a good night’s sleep we arrived early in Trinity Sports Ground for our Final, a 2pm throw in against Cumann Báire Caoimhín. The girls were nervous but I think the mentors were worse! After an inspiring team talk from Camogie Captain Lauren Greene, the girls took to the field and after going behind to an early goal we got into our stride thanks in part to the great support from the sidelines and helped by some fantastic free taking by Hannah Morris. We went in 1-3 to 1-0 leaders at half time. We came out for the second half and outscored CBC 2-4 to 0-2 to claim the cup and an historic first Féile win for Fins Camogie.
Final Score Fingallians 3-7 CBC 1-2.
Everyone who attended will agree that the girls gave it their all with mentors agreeing that every girl gave 110% and showed a hunger like never before.
Congrats to Cara O’Connell on her player of the match performance and to all the players, mentors and supporters.
