Ukrainian Day
Last Saturday, in conjunction with the Swords Lions, we had the pleasure of hosting an afternoon for our Ukrainian friends who are currently staying up the road in Emmaus House.
Thanks to Swords Express for the transportation
We started the day with an exhibition of our Gaelic games from our U/11 boys. Thanks to the mentors for putting them through their paces. Our guests were very interested in both the Football and Hurling and we may very well have enrolled a few new recruits. There was also a visit to the Boxing Club and then back to the hall for refreshments. Our friends in Kinsealy Comhaltas provided some great Irish Music and the Elbadri McAuley Baird Irish Dancers gave a super performance. It was plain to see that our visitors were really enjoying the entertainment.
Cionn tSaile Comhaltas
We would like to thank those who helped out with the BBQ along with Claire. Peter Warren, Joe Murphy, Derek McKittrick were cooking up a storm and made sure everyone had a good meal. Thanks to David Rodgers for supplying the baked potatoes which went down a treat. The deserts were provided by the super baker Deirdre Doherty, Sandra Foley and fruit by Keelings. Eddie Glennon (Spar) provided us with a large amount of treats for all, thanks again for your support.
Keelings Strawberries being thoroughly enjoyed
And everyone went home with a beautiful gift sourced by Valerie Smith.
Thanks also to Siobhán Kinsella and her colleagues of Noel Recruitment who chatted to our guests in relation to job opportunities in Ireland.
Thanks to the hard working Committee who organised a great day and all our other amazing volunteers who gave of their time. These days could not take place without everyone coming together and creating a fantastic community spirit. We are hoping to welcome some of the Ukrainian children to the club over the summer and again would appreciate any help.
Having a go at some football.
