Brian Jordan - Off to Finland

We would like to wish our GPO Brian Jordan the very best of luck as he takes on a new challenge further afield.

Brian started as our club GPO in April 2019 and has made a significant impact on our club since then. During his time here Brian has been responsible for recruiting hundreds of children to the club through his tireless interaction in our local schools and on Saturday mornings at the Nursery. It is often commented that a good GPO is known by all the kids and vice verse and this can be said of Brian.  He was also heavily involved in the setting up the GAA Fins All Stars and the "Give GAA a Go" initiative.

He was available at all times to our coaches and even found time to play with our adult footballers during his time in the club.

Thank you Brian and best wishes in the future from all at Fingallians

Match Fixtures
What a great start in the League last weekend for our first team hurlers who had a win over Na Fianna including 2 goals from our young debutant Ben Stears. Our second team hurlers also did us proud beating St Maurs.  Well done to all involved.

Plenty of Adult games at home and away to get out and support during the upcoming week. Here is the Adult Fixture List:

We are delighted to say that our Nursery & Academy will be continuing through the month of July

If your child is aged 4-6 and is interested in joining the Joe Duffy Group Nursery/Academy please contact us on fingallians@gmail.com

The Fins All Stars
We are urgently looking for new volunteers  to help out with this  important and rewarding coaching. It's for one hour on a Friday evening. (6pm - 7pm) and any help would be greatly appreciated. If you think you would like to help out please contact Niamh (0857332970)

Juvenile Section
Some reports from our Juvenile section mentors.

Our U14 3rd team hurlers put in a good day's work on Saturday away to Castleknock in very hot conditions.  It was a well contested game, very enjoyable to watch and all the boys demonstrating a full array of their skills. Well done lads.

U/9 Girls Report
The U9 girls welcomed Whitehall Colmcille to Balheary on what was a sunny Sunday morning as both clubs got their football season off to a great start. With each of the three Fingallians teams playing three games, it was great to see so many girls enjoying themselves with plenty of skills and teamwork to entertain the supporters: catching, running, tackling, passing and scoring with great confidence. It is clear that the training and home practice is paying off already girls.  Well done.

Special thanks to the helpers who turned up early to set up the pitches and also to those players who evened up the numbers to provide lots of game time for all.

'Give GAA  A Go'
The 'Give GAA a Go' proved very success last year so we have decided to run another this Saturday 26th June.  It is an introduction to both hurling and football for those who haven't had the opportunity to try it before.  (online registration to follow)

You can find a full list of fixtures for the Juvenile section on Dublingaa.ie.

Noreen McKittrick (1929 - 2020)  - by Dave McKittrick

Noreen McKittrick with the President of the GAA Aogán Ó Fearghail

As most of you will know by now we have called our new Café Noreens after one of our most infamous lady members Noreen McKittrick. Many of our newer members were enquiring about her so here is a brief history.

Noreen was a native of Ballyhaunis in Co. Mayo and came to Dublin/Swords as a 16 year old in 1944. Noreen married Peter McKittrick in the early 50s and lived in the house nextdoor to Lawless Memorial Park. They had 3 children Mary, James and Peter.

Throughout the years Peter, her husband, was head groundsman within the club and Noreen would take charge of looking after the washing of jerseys for the senior teams.

On many occasions she would be involved with hanging of the nets and flagging the pitches prior to games, also during the off season could be seen giving Peter a hand whitewashing the goal post for the year ahead.

Noreen was one of the main people credited with the organising and running of the Ladies Committee within the club. Their role involved numerous tasks within the clubhouse but the section was mainly remembered for all the fabulous variety of food that they provided while catering for functions and teams after games and especially during the festivals.

Noreen held the title of Vice President of the club for many years and one of her proudest days was when she led the parade of our club members through the main street during the GAA 125 Year celebrations.

She was fondly remembered by all, especially the bar and office staff who worked alongside her to keep the club in tip top shape. For all the children who went through the summer camps over the years she is fondly rememenbered for feeding everyone with sandwiches and everyone’s favourite homemade apple tarts.

Noreen was also an avid fan of the club’s bingo and up to her later years was involved in the running of the night.  Noreen’s love for the club was always there even after she retired at the grand age of 85 from doing any more daily activities within the clubhouse.  It was with great sadness that we said goodbye to Noreen aged 92 on 15th April 2020

Noreen's loyalty and commitment to our Club will never be forgotten and the naming of the cafe is hopefully a small gesture to show that we really appreciated you and you will be forever remembered by the Fingallians Club.

Keep Fins Tidy

We would like to encourage all players and parents to please take home rubbish after training and games.  If you see rubbish left behind we would kindly ask that you pick it up.  Thanks in advance for your co-operation.
