Camogie

Last November, the Club Executive set  a goal to reintroduce an Adult Camogie Team to Fingallians, after an absence of over 30 years.  Their vision, to assure our young juvenile Camogie players that there is a home for all camogie players (young and old) in Fingallians.

Before the Christmas break, we were delighted to have 9 players answer our call to come and play, with 11 more who had committed to start in the new year.  Things were looking very positive!  But unfortunately, a level 5 Covid lock-down closed everything and brought all our plans to a standstill .  Little did we know at that time, our next training session would not take place until May 10th, 2021.

We eagerly met on May 10th and began preparations for the Adult League.  Last Thursday night, June 10th,  just four weeks later, this brand-new adult camogie team, took on its first major challenge.  Togging out against the Mighty Titans of Na Fianna, for our first league match, brought a healthy dose of nerves mixed with fear! But most of all and air of great excitement.  It was a huge step and a great achievement by all involved.  Many of  those togging out for Fingallians had never held a hurl in their hands just  five weeks prior to the game.  They diligently set about learning the skills, understanding the positions on the pitch, as the boldly built a strong and courageous team spirit.  The bravest of the brave stepped forward, ...

Laura Biddulph
Lauren McCormack
Lauren Retig
Lorraine Sheridan

Orla Leonard

Shauna Murphy

Also James Fitzgerald (Coach) & Lesley Biddulph

Win, lose or draw the girls were determined to enjoy the experience (and secretly, to survive the match).  Having dedicated their first game to Orla Kinsella & Sarah Lambert who couldn’t play on the night, they went out and fought tough and hard against a very experienced Na Fianna side.  Leaving their hearts on the pitch, they never gave up.  And although they lost the game on the night the won so much more.  They had faced their fears, survived in grueling heat and loved every minute of it!

Now our focus is to continue building on what we have started.

We want to take the opportunity to thank all those in Fingallians for supporting us on this important  adventure.  Especially Colin Foley, Anne Marie Brett, Caroline Whelan,  Mick Kennedy and the Executive.  Thanks to is also due to Jean Kelly and her band of supporters (Minor Camogie Players) most especially Anna Mullen, Niamh Donoghue, Keelin McGrath, Aoife Grimes, and  Ciara O'Grady

If you would like to be part of this adventure, or any Camogie adventure in Fingallians,  please do contact the club PRO Esther, who will connect you. If you would like to become a Sponsor partner in this adventure, we would love to hear from you too.  Again, details are available from Esther our club PRO.

Remember, Young or old there is a camogie home for you in Fingallians.  We will keep you posted on our journey.

THANK YOU

FINGALLIANS  GAA  All STAR LEGENDS

If you walk into the bar area in recent times you will have seen pictures of our fellow club men and women who have won All Star awards.

The club over the years has had players who have represented different counties in gaelic football and hurling codes and who have been rewarded with an All Star. We have been lucky to have had  8 players who have received such awards . In men's football we have had Harry Keegan with Roscommon, Kieran  Duff  aka Dully Dublin and  Paul Flynn  Dublin. Keep Fins Tidy

We have received complaints in recent weeks in relation to the leaving of plastic bottles on all our pitches after training and matches.  We would encourage the use of reusable bottles that are taken home with players.  If you see rubbish left behind we would kindly ask that you pick it up.  Thanks in advance for your co-operation.
