This week saw all primary and secondary school children return to school.  We're sure they are all very happy to get back to their learning and seeing all their teachers and friends.

We had our own skills competition for our Juvenile members to keep them busy practicing their hurling and football.  Thanks to all who submitted their videos and congratulations to those who received sliotars and footballs.  We would also like to thank our Senior members for doing the skills demonstrations: Niamh Crowley, TJ Howard, Caroline Nee, Niamh Ward, Shane Howard and Emma Colgan.

Return to Play
We will hopefully see inter county teams back on the 19th April.  Then from the 26th April all our Juvenile teams up to Minor will be back training in their pods.

But in the meantime, we have been asked by the County Board to remind people that our GAA club grounds must stay closed.

The Clubs History
Dave McKittrick taking a look at hurling in the early days.

The club would have had some hurling throughout the seventies and eighties with people like Viv Delaney.  There was also some promotion during the summer months for the purpose of games during the festivals.  It was then in the mid nineties that there was a reintroduction into the juvenile section lead by a small band of very dedicated gaels. The great work done during these years allowed the club to form an adult section. The club entered in the lower ranks of the Junior Hurling Leagues and over a two year period made great progress gaining promotion to the top Junior division. They reached the Junior Championship Final in 2002 losing out to Kilmacud Crokes and a week later made up for the loss with a notable win over Liffey Gaels in the Top 4 League Play Off . Some notable other wins for the section in the early years included the Junior 'C' league Division 3 final beating Clan na Gael and the Eddie Barron Shield against N. Fionbarra.

The years that followed through the Noughties saw more talented young players emerge and we hope to share further details of those teams in future notes.

See below some good photos of the teams from the early days. Panels at the time included:
Brendan O'Reilly, John Coughlan, Donal Lydon, Barry Loughran, Malachy Nulty, David Mills, Conor Daly, Stephen Daly, Eoin Cullen, Lawdie Austin, Stuart McNeill, David Markey, Donal Dempsey, Mick Kennedy, Mark McArdle, Shane Maxwell, Donal Connor, Carl Jones, Derek McKittrick, Enda Connor, Shay Manton, Enda Broderick, Peter McIntyre, Henry Sheehan, David Markey, Darren Reilly, Peter Tormey, Stephen Keegan, Stephen Holland, Conor Daly, Barry Loughlin, Paul Morton, Ivan O'Connor, David Cronin, Sean McGarry, Barry O'Connell.

Also to be seen in the photos are Colm Crowley, Paddy Kelly & Noel Delaney who were there from the start to this day pushing the hurling cause.
